Not many people think of fast food workers as dedicated employees, but Marcia Rabideau, an Arby’s employee from Sterling Heights certainly doesn’t adhere to that stereotype as the defense of her manager and her store from a robber proves.
This incident occurred on the morning of November 27th at around 9:00 AM as Marcia was working her shift she noticed her distressed store manager run up to the front door before pounding on it and shouting that he had been robbed.
Now, most people in this situation would call the cops (in fact that may be the smartest thing to do) but Marcia decided to take matters into her own hands when she saw the thief running off as she herself used to head up Saginaw’s Arson Watch.
So Marcia took off into the parking lot and entered her Dodge Charger which also housed her 9mm handgun before revving the engine and giving chase to the robber who had taken off with seven deposits from the store. Eventually, Marcia’s chase and the thief’s escape attempts brought him to a dead end where the only choices were an icy river or facing Marcia and her firearm, so he did what most criminals do in a situation like this and gave up.
Ms. Rabideau then waited with her firearm pointed at the crook until police officers arrived and took him away. She later said of the incident…
“I didn’t think, I just reacted, just being stupid, I guess.”
And while it is a dangerous and not encouraged method of stopping a robbery this time it did work out. However, this is a woman who has obviously had some form of police training and understood how to stop the situation. There were no shots fired and nobody was injured. We can’t say that the same would happen if you attempted to do the same thing. So just remember, if something like this happens to you or someone you care about, make sure you are safe where you are and let the police handle these situations. After all, it’s what your taxes go to pay for anyway.
What do you think of this story? Do you believe Ms. Rabideau did the right thing or should she have just stayed put and tried to survive? Let us know in the comments below.
